Statistics Canada · Table 18-10-0004-01
Cost of living
In September 2026, Canada's all-items Consumer Price Index was 170.0 (2002=100), up 3.1% from September 2025. The 12-month change is calculated on this site from the published index. The food index was 201.8, up 2.2% from September 2025.
This page is not a household budget. The index measures price change, with 2002 equal to 100. It does not say what a city costs in dollars. City rows use Statistics Canada's CPI geography, which is wider than a municipal boundary. Food indexes are published for Canada, the provinces, Whitehorse and Yellowknife, not for census metropolitan areas. Figures were copied from the official table on November 1, 2026.
