North Bay sits on Lake Nipissing in northeastern Ontario, where Highway 11 and the Canadian National railway turn toward the Clay Belt. It is a regional service, aviation, and former NORAD city, with a rebuilt waterfront that is the main public landscape. The Canadian Shield and the Dionne Quintuplets story are part of local identity. About 53,000 people live in North Bay.
